Unlike with seeding or cuttings, you can enjoy all the benefits of a green roof immediately after installation – which means simply unrolling the sedum blanket. With seeding, the same effect can only be achieved after 2 to 3 years depending on maintenance. Installation of the mat decreases the costs of subsequent maintenance of the roof. If well-rooted mats are installed, it is possible to distribute substrate in a layer which is 2–3 cm lower compared to seeding. Bigger substrate layer for cuttings means not only higher weight, but it also allows for growing of weeds on uncovered areas.

Unlike installation of the pre-cultivated blankets, cuttings installation does not allow for immediate use of all the benefits of extensive green roof (other areas), such as decreasing the effects of water and wind erosion. We recommend installation of the cuttings in the spring or in the autumn. We do not recommend cuttings installation in higher temperatures. The substrate must be humid during the whole time of rooting.
